The so-called generation Z is very aware of the environment, the use of resources and the materials of the future, and this is reflected in the end-of-degree projects presented by the students of Elisava, the Barcelona University School of Design and Engineering. The development of the works has made it possible to understand and grasp the interests, concerns and motivations of the future generation, of society and of design. We highlight two student projects based on the creation of new products from primary materials such as seeds or a revolutionary material such as graphene.
Seeds is a fashion project based on the use from seeds to design sustainable clothing. The project, created by student Sara Unzueta, consists of the creation of clothes from seeds, 3D printing and growing d'roots in controlled form. The procedure begins with the 3D printing of the pattern of the part with the dimensions of the consumer. This mold is filled with seeds and then sown. The seeds germinate transforming into roots that grow to take the shape of the garment's pattern. The result is a piece of clothing created based on d’roots. Those parts of the piece that have been separated will be joined together using cassava thread. /span>
The project promotes l'Slow Fashion as a claim to postmodern consumption that has changed the way society buys and consumes. Within this new concept of ecological fashion, the project is part of Growing Textiles, a discipline that proposes sustainable alternatives in the future textile industry.

Materials research is a fundamental pillar of Elisava that works both in the projects of'degree students and from department of'R&D, Elisava Research. All interpretation and knowledge of materials is concentrated on the Narrative Materials platform. The international platform is based on experimentation, design and /span>'engineering to innovate through new materials. From the platform s'investigate in an applied way how the materials in our environment can understand< /span>'s.
Based on experimentation and design through new materials, he has spent years investigating how the materials in our environment can be understood comprehensively and from a social, cultural, sustainable and technological perspective.
